Webinar Series |Navigating the drug discovery to development continuum

The first webinar in this series was 'Enabling the Drug Discovery and Development Continuum', presented by Evotec experts Ciriaco Maraschiello, Steven Bromidge, Rob Riley and Bozena Adamczyk.

About the webinar

This outlines how the blending of discovery and development teams and profiling activities, often considered only in development, within the lead optimisation (LO) phase, facilitates a gradual and seamless transition into clinically enabling development rather than a discrete hand-over between traditionally separate organisations. This philosophy has been shown to deliver PDCs with enhanced “development quality” and hence increased likelihood of surviving downstream development pressures.

The presentation also describes Evotec’s approaches to make better and more informed decisions to better manage development risks through a strong focus on human relevance as well as the prediction of outcomes, for example, with the use of machine learning and AI. In addition, for those outcomes that cannot be predicted, the benefits of revealing the unpredictable as early as possible in order to discharge or mitigate development risks will be discussed.

The Speakers

Ciriaco Maraschiello
EVP, Global Head of Drug Development

Ciriaco Maraschiello

Steve has experience in the following areas: international people, project and strategic leadership experience with a deep understanding of the R&D value chain, strategic perspective of the whole drug discovery process based on extensive preclinical and clinical experience, and a strong track record of delivery having progressed multiple drug candidates into preclinical testing many of which have reached the clinic (up to PhIII). >100 peer reviewed publications and patents.

Rob Riley
EVP, Drug Discovery

Rob Riley

A highly motivated, successful leader and drug hunter with > 20 years experience in Biopharmaceutical Research & Development in several therapeutic areas (CNS, CV, R&I and Oncology). A pharmacologist by training, previous roles include Head of Chemistry and DMPK in Respiratory and Inflammation within Astrazeneca. Rob has also been an active member of several Governance and Portfolio bodies (including the Global Oncology Project Evaluation Group and Global Scientific Committee) with a keen eye for compound properties and quality.

Bozena Adamczyk
VP, Head of Integrated Development

adamsczyk

Bozena has 20 years of experience in the pharma industry. She started her career in 2001 as a Formulation Scientist/Expert responsible for development of various oral formulations and transfer to commercial manufacture. In 2006, she moved to early development space working as a Senior Formulation Scientist/Technical Leader with a focus on development of oral dosage form formulations (proprietary technology), management of preclinical formulation screening and manufacture of clinical Phase I-II supplies. In 2012, she joined Aptuit Verona as a Technical and Analytical Technical Leader and transitioned into the Scientific Project Leader role in 2018. Since 2019 she has been leading the team of Scientific Project Leaders who scientifically overview and coordinate integrated development programs (INDIGOs, integrated FTiH, integrated CMC etc.) and work closely with Discovery teams in transitioning candidates into development.
